A trip was made by several members of Staff at Head Office to the “The Real Peaky Blinders” tour run by Professor Carl Chinn.
The tour is centred around the Digbeth/Deritend area of Birmingham where the real ‘Peaky Blinders’ used to ply their shadowy trade; the architecture and atmosphere and ambience of the city streets still remains and with the expertise of Professor Carl Chinn you could see the streets and houses where they used to reside and hear the stories that inspired the BBC series.
Taking in many historic buildings you hear about the part they played in the ‘Peaky Blinders’ story and the characters who used to strike fear in the hearts of the local residents and the police of the time.
The tour will take you on a dark journey of discovery. A journey about poverty, crime and gangs which still has a resonance in the 21st century.
The tour was presented in an excellent and fascinating way and if you are interested it is well worth a visit.
The day ended with a well deserved meal at Turtle Bay Restaurant.
